Health care workers, including hospital staff and other staff working or studying in a hospital, face the risk of exposure to communicable diseases. Due to their contact with patients and/or the hospital environment, health workers may transmit a disease that is preventable by vaccination, to others. Interns are as likely as health workers to be exposed to disease, and can transmit illnesses to patients under their care.
Vaccination is essential to the employment of health care workers, as well as for interns within health care settings.
