If you are planning to travel with kids, you should be adequately informed regarding all the vaccinations necessary to keep them safe during your trip. The last thing you want is for your child to fall sick in a foreign land, yet it could have been avoided by simply visiting a medical travel clinic, and getting all the necessary travel vaccines to protect your children.
Here is a brief look into some of the recommended travel vaccines for kids:
Typhoid Vaccine
Children can catch typhoid through contaminated food or water. Children below the age of 2 years can receive the typhoid vaccine in a travel clinic, especially when you are headed for rural areas in Asia, the Caribbean, Africa, South or Central America.
Japanese Encephalitis Vaccine
Japanese Encephalitis is a disease spread by mosquitoes and is common in Southeast Asia. It is known to cause serious brain inflammation, with close to a quarter of all those who get infected ending up dead. If you are headed to Southeast Asia with your kids, then this is a must have jab, usually administered in a series of three shots over a duration of one month.
Yellow Fever
Yellow Fever vaccine is another jab worth considering if you are headed to South America and sub-Saharan Africa. Children of nine months and older should get a single dose at least ten days before leaving, and immunity will last for up to 10 years.
Meningococcal
This is another routine childhood vaccine for preventing infections from bacteria that can cause fatal meningitis, pneumonia, and blood infection amongst other complications. The vaccine is usually administered to children at the age of 11 or 12 years old. However, a one dose vaccine may be recommended for children as young as two years old.
