Out of ignorance, most people travel abroad without giving any due consideration to travel vaccines. Once they get a few required shots for that destination, they think they are all set to go and are now immune against falling ill during the trip. However, this is a very poor approach. It is commendable going for the routine shots, but it is also important to ask the travel doctor for other recommended travel vaccines that might be necessary to ramp up your immunity when you are away.
This is because people travel to different places and for different reasons, and even though what you might be doing in your destination may not appear risky to you, it could potentially expose you to a horde of diseases which are easily preventable through vaccination. This is why it is important to visit a travel clinic and know about all the risks you may be exposed to, and also to get all the recommended shots.
When to go for travel vaccines
The recommended time to go for travel vaccine is six weeks before the departure date. This is to allow the vaccine enough time to take effect in your body so that by the time you land at your destination, your system shall have developed the necessary immunity. Again, there are some travel vaccines given in schedules and when you go at the last minute, you may not be able to receive all the schedules before flying out. Be sure to consult your travel doctor or visit any travel clinic and discuss your needs so that you can be advised appropriately on what you need to do.
Side effects of the travel vaccines
Vaccinations do not make you feel unwell, but you may experience certain side effects. If the vaccination was administered via an injection, the area of injection may be slightly sore. It is also common to experience flu-like symptoms, or allergic reactions for the Yellow Fever vaccines. But for the most cases, the symptoms are never serious and will disappear after a short while.
